People who regularly practice distance walking generally walk for 5-6 miles three or four days a week, and then aim for a 20 mile walk in one day on the weekend. There are a number of long distance walking events, which typically have walkers complete 30 miles in less than 10 hours.

Estimate Your Walking Distance While your body is made for walking, the distance you can achieve at an average walking pace of 3.1 miles per hour depends on whether you have trained for it or not. A trained walker can walk a 26.2-mile marathon in eight hours or less, or walk 20 to 30 miles in a day.

A trained walker can do up to 26.2 miles a day walking at an average speed with no breaks. You, however, have to build your coverage in several months. To be able to achieve this distance and become an experienced walker you’ll need to be patient. For the first weeks, you are bound to experience blister trouble.

Walking for one to four hours lets you cover anywhere from 2 to 10 miles, depending on pace. Working through two separate sessions daily is also a good approach to covering more miles with a nice break to relieve the joints. Dedicated walking just a few days each week lets you do longer time-frame workouts.

Did you know that a healthy person could walk an average of 20 miles or up to 30 miles in one day? Some sources had it that a fit and healthy (and trained) person can walk at this rate in about 7 hours per day. In fact, trained walkers could finish a 26.2 marathon, and that’s not even in a fast-paced manner.

Take 10,000 steps every day and you will meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Surgeon General's recommendation to log at least 30 minutes of moderate activity most days of the week. Ten thousand steps translates to roughly 5 miles. So get a pedometer and work up to a good walk -- you can do it in 10-minute segments.

At a gallop, horses can travel between 25 and 30 mph on average. Of course, a gallop can’t be sustained for very long and it’s unlikely the terrain will allow for a long gallop either. Typically, a healthy horse will comfortably walk for about eight hours, and by using the data above, that would mean that you could possibly cover about 32 miles.

A typical walk, trot, canter, and gallop vary in speed i.e., 4 mph, 8-12 mph, 12-15 mph, and 25-30 mph, respectively. Typical horses can walk for eight hours with ease, which translates to 32 miles. Fit horses can cover more distance when trotting or cantering periodically. Given that horses follow the rider’s cue, the pace you set for your horse will determine how far he/she is able to go in a day.
